Pioneers of Pagonia will officially leave Early Access in the second half of 2025. The cozy yet complex medieval-fantasy city builder is set to deliver its 1.0 release with a long-awaited story campaign. Until then, players can expect two major updates to roll out during the year, expanding core systems and introducing modding features.
The announcement came alongside the game’s first roadmap for 2025, outlining new building tools, a revised economy, and improved settlement progression—all aimed at refining the core experience before the full launch later this year.
Major Economy Update Arrives Soon
The next major milestone for Pioneers of Pagonia is the Economy Update, which overhauls village-building progression. Instead of beginning with a fully stocked base, players can now start with just a handful of Pagonian settlers and build their economy from scratch. This change encourages gradual resource gathering and supply chain management from the ground up.
To support the new economic model, eight new buildings are being introduced, and the tutorial map has been refreshed to help guide both returning players and newcomers. Balancing adjustments throughout settlement development aim to create a more satisfying long-term gameplay loop.
Players will also gain access to a new economy summary screen, offering at-a-glance insight into production chains and resource flow. Visual updates across landscape types and terrain generation will add further variety to the world, including dramatic cliff formations and twisting layouts. Additionally, decorative items are being introduced—responding to player feedback and offering more ways to personalize settlements.
Modding and Map Tools Coming in Second Update
The second major update of 2025 will focus on user-generated content. A full-featured map editor will allow the community to design custom maps, which can then be uploaded, shared, and accessed directly from within the game.
This update will also lay the foundation for modding support, expanding what players can create and interact with. Envision Entertainment plans to share more on the editor’s capabilities, community sharing tools, and modding options in the months ahead.
Details about the 1.0 story campaign will also be revealed closer to launch, with the developers noting that it will be a key part of the final release and draw from the game’s fantasy lore and handcrafted world.

The studio behind Pioneers of Pagonia, Envision Entertainment, is made up of veterans from EA Phenomic—known for titles like SpellForce and BattleForge. Based near Frankfurt, the team brings deep experience in strategy game design to the project. Their efforts have been supported by the German games fund grant from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
Since its Early Access launch in December 2023, the game has been steadily expanded with regular updates, garnering a following of city-building fans drawn to its relaxed pacing and detailed logistics systems.
