Black Ops 7 Announced at Xbox Showcase with GFN Opt-In

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is officially on the way, continuing the series’ shift into darker, more psychological territory. Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase, the next Black Ops game is set in 2035 and picks up the narrative threads left hanging after Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. This is the first time the franchise has delivered consecutive Black Ops entries a sign that Treyarch and Raven Software are fully committing to this sub-series’ evolving story.

While a full gameplay reveal is still a few months away, there’s already plenty of important detail for platform fans. Black Ops 7 has already opted into GeForce NOW via Steam, making it one of the first high-profile 2025 shooters with early backend GFN support. It’s also launching across Steam, Battle.net, Xbox PC, and Game Pass meaning it could be cloud-accessible across nearly every major PC storefront from day one.

A near-future war built on fear

The year is 2035. The world is unstable, fragmented, and reeling from the aftermath of multiple Black Ops conflicts. At the center is David Mason — returning from Black Ops 2 — now leading a team caught in a war driven more by psychological manipulation than raw firepower.

Black Ops 7 explores a world where enemies don’t just use weapons — they use fear. From the teaser and early comms, it’s clear this entry will lean into mind-bending themes and modern tech. The tone is darker, the setting more dystopian, and the stakes more personal. The teaser hints at hallucinations, unreliable reality, and weaponized perception — traits that defined earlier Black Ops games like 1 and 2, but taken to a new level.

Campaign, Zombies, and full multiplayer package

This isn’t just a story trailer drop. Activision has confirmed that Black Ops 7 will offer the full COD package, with all modes launching together and receiving ongoing live support.

  • A new co-op campaign, described as “thrilling and innovative,” lets players experience the story solo or with friends.
  • Competitive multiplayer returns with new maps, weapons, and near-future loadouts that fit the 2035 setting.
  • Zombies is back as a round-based mode, continuing the Dark Aether narrative with new horrors to face and secrets to uncover.

There’s a big push to deliver more content at launch than previous entries, and the developers have confirmed that this is part of a longer-term live plan building off Black Ops 6’s momentum.

A full multi-platform launch with early GFN signals

Black Ops 7 is coming to both last-gen and current-gen platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. On PC, it will be available through Steam, Battle.net, and the Xbox PC app. Importantly, it will also launch day one on Game Pass — both console and PC.

Even though a full NVIDIA announcement hasn’t been made yet, the game has already opted into GeForce NOW via Steam backend. Combined with its presence on Xbox PC and Game Pass, that have seen increasing GFN support, it’s a strong signal that Black Ops 7 will be streamable via cloud from launch.

Looking ahead to the full reveal

The current trailer is only the start. Activision confirmed a full Black Ops 7 reveal will arrive later this summer, likely with extended campaign footage, Zombies breakdowns, and a multiplayer deep dive.

In the meantime, players can rewatch the teaser and start speculating. There are clues buried throughout the cinematic, and if past marketing is anything to go by, the months ahead will be filled with coded transmissions, ARG-style teasers, and early Warzone tie-ins.

We’ll be tracking all of it here as the Black Ops madness unfolds.

Expected to be playable on GeForce NOW via Steam and Xbox PC
