Backpack Battles is officially ready to exit Early Access, with the 1.0 launch set for June 13. The clever inventory-based autobattler has been a surprise hit on Steam, and developer PlayWithFurcifer is celebrating in style — not just with a huge update, but also with a milestone: over one million copies sold.

Meet the Mage and the Adventurer
The 1.0 update adds two all-new playable classes to the lineup: the Mage and the Adventurer.
The Mage introduces more complexity, focusing on spell patterns, buffs, and careful positioning. Her Puzzlebox loadout features Tetris-style inventory shapes and spell-centric items like scrolls, wands, and books. If you love intricate builds and magical mechanics, this one’s for you.
Meanwhile, the Adventurer thrives on chaos and creativity. Her Bag of Giving lets her pull items from other classes at random, turning every run into a surprise. If that sounds a bit too unpredictable, her other loadout takes a more grounded approach, focusing on neutral item synergy using Twine.
Both characters come fully featured from launch, with five subclasses, class-specific skills, and unique item sets to explore.
More Than Just New Classes
Version 1.0 also brings a wave of quality-of-life improvements and final polish, rounding out the experience for long-time fans and newcomers alike. While the developers are holding some surprises back for launch day, they’ve hinted at refinements across the UI, balance, and performance fronts.
With a unique mix of strategy, inventory management, and roguelike replayability, Backpack Battles has carved out a niche all its own — and it’s only getting better.
