Vessels of Decay Launches June 19 with GFN Potential

A pixel-art survivor walks between overgrown ruins in a lush forest

Vessels of Decay, a retro-inspired post-apocalyptic action-adventure from developer Simon Jakobsson and publisher Headup, is officially launching on June 19 for PC and consoles. It has also opted into GeForce NOW, giving it a chance of cloud support around launch, though it was not part of this week’s GFN Thursday update.

A Scandinavian World of Ruin and Myth

Set in a haunting world where nature has reclaimed the remnants of a fallen civilization, Vessels of Decay puts players in the role of Freja and her unusual companion Mud as they navigate a pixel-art landscape steeped in Scandinavian folklore. Expect ruins, monsters, and ancient spirits—each more dangerous than the last.

Fast Combat and Cinematic Finishers

While it may look like a moody sidescroller at first glance, the game leans heavily into kinetic, fast-paced combat. Each enemy has unique behaviors and can be staggered for devastating finisher moves. The bosses drawn from Nordic mythology aren’t pushovers either, with multi-phase battles that push players to learn patterns and strike with precision.

Exploration Meets Melancholy

Vessels of Decay is as much about its quiet moments as it is about combat. The world is fully handcrafted, with detailed pixel art telling the story of decay, survival, and the supernatural. It’s a love letter to classic action-adventure games, but filtered through a Scandinavian lens full of melancholy and mystery.

Given the involvement of Headup, a publisher with a number of games already available on GeForce NOW, we think there’s a decent chance Vessels of Decay will be officially added to the service in the near future. The game is currently listed on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
