NetEase Games and Joker Studio have officially unveiled Sea of Remnants, a surreal oceanic action RPG, during the latest PlayStation State of Play. Announced for both PC and PlayStation 5, the game blends survival, exploration, and strategy with a unique puppet-inspired world and an eerie story about memory, death, and rebirth. It is giving me Sea of Thieves vibes.
Set Sail Into a Cursed Sea
Players take on the role of an amnesiac sailor embarking on a mysterious voyage alongside a strange girl. Together, they journey toward the Sea of Remnants a place said to hold wealth and renown, but also a curse that strips travelers of their very identity.
The sea itself is shaped by lost memories, giving rise to glowing magenta currents, monster-infested islands, and strange civilizations. As you explore, you’ll recruit puppetfolk companions, build a custom crew, upgrade your ship, and venture out into procedurally generated chaos. On land, you’ll uncover ancient ruins, encounter mysterious tribes, and dive deep into strange lore.
More Than Just a Pirate Game
While Sea of Remnants features classic ocean gameplay like naval combat, fleet upgrades, and scavenging, it avoids rigid structures. Joker Studio says they wanted to make a game that asks: “What would a pirate do?” — letting players explore and fight on their own terms.
There’s also Orbtopia, a vibrant pirate city that acts as your hub between voyages. It evolves based on your decisions, offering activities like crafting, training, fishing, mahjong, and more. You can even open a shop, find new professions for your crew, or just kick back and enjoy the shifting factions and evolving narrative.
Opted Into GeForce NOW
The PC version of Sea of Remnants has been officially opted into GeForce NOW, meaning it’s in NVIDIA’s system and could be available to stream on day one or shortly after. NetEase already supports several titles on GFN, so this fits their pattern of growing cloud support.
