Mafia: The Old Country Confirmed for Summer Game Fest Reveal

A tense standoff in a sunlit underground warehouse in Mafia: The Old Country

A new chapter in one of gaming’s most storied crime sagas is about to begin. Mafia: The Old Country has officially been announced as part of this year’s Summer Game Fest, with a full reveal scheduled during the showcase on Friday, June 7.

This marks the first new Mafia game since Mafia III in 2016, and the first completely original entry since the franchise was rebooted with Mafia: Definitive Edition in 2020. It’s being developed by Hangar 13, who have been quietly working on the project for several years. While exact details remain under wraps, the game’s title hints at a possible prequel set in the criminal underworld’s early days likely before the events of the original trilogy.

A Legacy of Grit, Power, and Loyalty

The Mafia series has always stood apart with its focus on story-driven crime drama. Starting with the original game in 2002, the franchise quickly earned a cult following for its grounded tone, period-authentic detail, and memorable characters.

Mafia II, set in the post-war era, introduced more cinematic storytelling and established the series’ signature mix of narrative and action. Mafia III shifted the focus to the late 1960s, telling a revenge-fueled story in the heart of New Bordeaux — a reimagined New Orleans.

Now, The Old Country looks set to push the series in a bold new direction, possibly moving the action overseas and deeper into the roots of organized crime.
