DayZ has just received its latest major update, and it’s a good one. Version 1.28 is now live across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, introducing dynamic events, a driving overhaul, and a wave of weapon-related tweaks and additions. Check out our DayZ game hub for ongoing coverage.
The update builds on extensive community feedback and is another step in Bohemia Interactive’s long-term commitment to refining the DayZ survival experience. Whether you’re hunting loot solo, patrolling with a squad, or just trying to stay alive on Sakhal, this update gives you more ways to engage, survive, and explore.
What’s New in DayZ 1.28
Dynamic World Events are the big-ticket item. Sakhal now features randomly spawning patrol boats (both fishing and military), ambulance wrecks stocked with medical supplies, and new helicopter crash sites across the map. These additions make traversal riskier—but also more rewarding.
Two new weapons join the arsenal:
- R12 Shotgun, a semi-auto with modular attachments
- RAK 37, a returning SMG firing .380 rounds with both 15- and 25-round mags
Weapon scopes also get a meaningful update. The new Marksman, PSO-6, and Sportpoint optics support damage states and illuminated reticles, while the rangefinder overlay is cleaner and easier to use.
On the audio side, non-automatic rifles now sound better than ever, and gunplay overall feels tighter. Weapon collision handling has also been refined with a new “pullback” mechanic when firearms hit obstacles.
A Major Driving Overhaul
Vehicles have long been a sore spot for DayZ players, but 1.28 finally addresses this with a full vehicle synchronization rework. Car handling is now smoother, more stable, and far more reliable in high-latency scenarios. Audio tweaks also help improve in-car comms without sacrificing atmosphere for those listening from afar.
More to Come
Bohemia says this isn’t the last major update of 2025, with more on the way. In the meantime, the full patch notes are available for those wanting every detail across platforms.
