Walkabout Minigolf has quietly become the first official Android app to appear on Steam, after new Android depots were added under the game’s existing AppID. The discovery was spotted by @SadlyItsBradley, who noticed the updated branches appearing on SteamDB.
This isn’t a separate listing or a new SKU. If you already own Walkabout Minigolf on Steam, you’ll automatically have access to the Android build. And that matters for one very obvious reason: Steam Frame is designed to run Android games.
What Actually Changed
SteamDB now shows multiple new Android branches for Walkabout Minigolf, sitting alongside its Windows and Linux builds. There’s no experimental flag, no region lock, nothing hidden. It’s just a standard depot, which strongly suggests Valve intends to distribute Android versions directly through Steam.
Since it’s tied to the same AppID, Steam users won’t need to buy it twice. The Android build comes with your existing purchase.
Why This Confirms Steam Frame’s Android Support
The Verge has already reported that Valve is preparing Steam Frame to support Android apps. Seeing an Android version officially uploaded to Steam under a live AppID makes that support look a lot less theoretical.
If developers can publish Android builds directly through Steam, then:
- Steam Frame gains instant access to mobile-style games
- Quest/Pico-style VR titles with Android variants may be portable
- No sideloading or third-party stores
- One purchase covers all platforms
Walkabout Minigolf being first suggests many more Android-enabled titles will follow once developers start preparing for Frame’s launch.
Expect More Android Apps Soon
This is likely the first of several games to gain Android depots. As more developers notice what’s happening and prepare their builds, we’ll likely see more Android support appear on SteamDB ahead of Steam Frame’s release.
